Geriatrics Nursing
Career Resources
Geriatrics is the branch of medicine concerned with the physiological,
pathological and psychological health care needs of an aging patient population.
A geriatrics nurse assesses patient health problems and needs, as well
as develops and implements individualized nursing care plans. A geriatrics
nurse typically administers care to patients in an outpatient, inpatient
or long term care (LTC) setting.
Geriatrics nursing is practiced by nurses who have specialized formal,
post-secondary education and who function in highly autonomous roles.
