Dialysis Nursing Career
Resources
Dialysis (peritoneal or hemodialysis) is a medical procedure that
uses a specialized machine to filter waste products from the bloodstream
and restore the normal constituents of blood.
A dialysis nurse administers a necessary, life-prolonging form of treatment
in patients with end-stage renal disease. Dialysis can be administered
in a specialized hospital setting or patients can be set up with dialysis
facilities at home. A dialysis nurse typically administers care to patients
in an out patient setting.
Dialysis nursing is practiced by nurses who have specialized formal, post-secondary
education and who function in highly autonomous roles.
