Nursing Jobs in the District of Columbia

There were over 10,300 licensed registered nurses (RNs) in the District of Columbia in 2000; nearly 9,600 were employed in nursing. There were 1,676.4 RNs per 100,000 population in the District of Columbia in 2000, more than double the national rate of 780.2.

The District of Columbia's per capita employment of Licensed Practical/ Vocational Nurses (LPNs) in 2000 (314.9 LPNs per 100,000 population) was significantly higher than the national rate (240.8 LPNs per 100,000 population).

There were nearly 800 nurse practitioners in the District of Columbia in 2000. This was equal to 138.0 nurse practitioners per 100,000 population, more than triple the national rate of 33.7.

With 118 certified nurse midwives in 2000, the District of Columbia had 20.6 certified nurse midwives per 100,000 population, substantially higher than the national rate of 2.9.

With 40 certified registered nurse anesthetists in 2003, the District of Columbia had 7.0 nurse anesthetists per 100,000 population, comparable to the national rate of 9.3.
